While the Government is still reviewing the allegations brought against Christopher 'Dudus' Coke by the United States (US) Government, one of two men who were awaiting extradition hearings was handed over to foreign authorities on the weekend.

The Gleaner understands that 21-year-old Davion Parson, who has been in police custody for the past two years, waived his rights to an extradition hearing. He is to face a triple-murder charge in the US.

A member of the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) disclosed that three more persons were scheduled to be extradited before the end of the month.

Extradited woman sentenced

Meanwhile, a Jamaican woman, Yvette Scott-Patterson, who was extradited last year, has been sentenced to nearly six years in prison and ordered to pay US$110,000 in restitution for her part in a multimillion-dollar mortgage fraud scheme dubbed 'Operation Whose House'.

A report from the US attorney for the Southern District of Florida said she was convicted on one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud, wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, and one count of aggravated identity theft in connection with the scheme.

She was charged with using her mortgage business, Khadmilroy Inc, to secure fraudulent home loans for the purchase of more than 30 properties at the height of Florida's real estate boom.

The Tampa Tribune, in the case of Parson, who is allegedly aligned to one of Jamaica's popular entertainers, reported that the triple-murder suspect is now in Polk County, Florida, and gave up his rights to the hearing in exchange for a promise he would not face the death penalty.

"The other option was not getting him back at all," said Chip Thullbery, spokesman for the 10th Judicial Circuit State Attorney's Office, quoted in The Tampa Tribune.

Asked why it took so long to get Parson back to Polk County, Thullbery said, "The process was one that was under the control of Jamaican authorities. They dictated the speed of the process."

Parson appeared in court yesterday and was denied bail.

Also wanted

Also on a list of those wanted by US authorities are Montegonian Oneil Clarke, 52, who was arrested a month ago.

Extradition requests from the US became a talking point after it was revealed recently that Tivoli strongman Christopher 'Dudus' Coke was wanted by authorities there.

Three weeks ago, Solicitor General Douglas Leys commenting on Coke's status, saying he was examining the legal implications before advising Attorney General Dorothy Lightbourne.
