Tivoli Gardens' Christopher Jackson was the toast of Thursday night's Jackie Bell knockout awards ceremony, which was held at GraceKennedy's head office on Harbour Street.

Jackson, who scored the lone goal in his team's 1-0 victory over Meadhaven United in the final at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex, won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the competition.

Jackson, a former national representative, said he was delighted with his achievements.

One for the résumé

"This is a great honour to get a award like this, because the Jackie Bell competition is one of the best leagues in Kingston and St Andrew," said Jackson.

"I think that I can also put this award on my résumé because you never know what might happen in the future," said Jackson.

Donald Foster of Rae Town took home the leading goalscorer award for his five goals of the season.

The West Kingston-based Tivoli Gardens collected the winning trophy and $350,000 for their efforts. Meadhaven United took home the second-place trophy and $200,000. Duhaney Park and Harbour View received $100,000 and $50,000 for finishing third and fourth, respectively, in the competition.

Sandra Forces, marketing manager of Western Union, said her company was happy with the running of the competition, and will extend its sponsorship to next season.

"We have been involved with competition for the past six years and it as been an excellent league over the years. It has also been well-organised and well-run by Rudolph Speid and his team," said Forbes.

"We recognise that this league touches a lot of youth in our communities and ... we will be on board next year," Forbes added.
