Misplaced priorities
The Editor, Sir;

So, there will be an increase in the number of electoral districts from the present 60 to 65, the primary rationale for this being to lessen the possibility of a tie in the general election.

Also, supposedly, efforts will be made to create these new districts in such a manner as to prevent one party from gaining an advantage over another.

Why the need to increase the number of constituencies? The number could have been reduced to an odd number to achieve the same primary objective. Oh yes! times are tough and the Government needs to find a way to provide employment for folks. Therefore, having more MPs and their staffs feeding at the public trough will help to alleviate the unemployment rate.

Forgive my cynicism and scepticism, but what we're witnessing here is a another example of misplaced priorities at a time when we can least afford to.

I am, etc.,
