Media training for western Jamaica
Media practioners in western Jamaica will be exposed to advanced news-writing techniques at a workshop hosted by the Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ) from April 3-4 in Montego Bay.

With the media industry reeling from the economic slowdown, PAJ president Byron Buckley has underscored the importance for practitioners to improve their skills to enable them to seize employment opportunities within and without the industry.

"Those colleagues who take steps to hone their craft will best survive this economic turbulence," notes Buckley. He says the workshop will be held for an affordable fee.

Talented presenters

Workshop presenter, veteran journalist Arthur Hall, has worked for many years in print and electronic media. "I was fortunate enough to learn at the feet of great journalists like Wilmot Perkins, Fae Ellington, Bobby Fray and Hugh Croskill, so it is a pleasure for me to pass on the knowledge that I have gained to others," says Hall.

The workshop in western Jamaica will be held at The Gleaner's Western Bureau offices. A similar workshop will be held for media practitioners in central Jamaica weekly from April 7-May 6 at the Northern Caribbean University in Mandeville. The main presenter will be veteran journalist Garfield Myers.

Another workshop on 'Marketing Professional Media Skills' will be held at the PAJ's offices, 5 East Avenue, Kingston 10, on Saturday, April 4, from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Presenters include communications specialist and journalist, Yvonne Grinam Nicholson, and international management consultant Dr Trevor Hamilton.
