'Wong' to watch

Justin Wong

Glenroy Sinclair, Assignment Coordinato

Unlike traditional young drivers who are from 'established motor-sport families', Justin Wong is making a name for himself.

The 16-year-old Hillel High School student is stretching his lead in the Rotax Junior Class and is now among the top contenders for the Abe Ziadie Memorial Trophy for the most outstanding karter of the year.

Next meet

The next meet is scheduled for April 5 at the Palisadoes International Raceway.

"He is very talented and always turns up at the meets with a well-prepared kart," said Neil Williams, vice-president of the Jamaica Karting Association.

Wong leads the table on 28 points, ahead of Chad Leahoung on 22.5 points, and Matthew Williams and Philip Myers, who are tied at third on 22 points.

Shifter class standings

In the Shifter Class, Joel Jackson is at the top of the table on 28.5 points, leading Peter Moodie Jr by only half a point. Martin Anderson is third on 18 points.

Mario Mair continues to show a clean pair of heels in the Rotax Masters Class with 33.5 points, followed by Sheldon Morgan on 29.5 points, with Sebastian Rae on 24 points.

Karters are also gearing up for the big two-day race international meet scheduled for July. Racers from the United States as well as in the region have already been confirmed.
