Bolt for Pro 15/15 cricket

Bolt

Usain Bolt, the world's fastest man, will join the star line-up of cricketers for Chris Gayle's Pro 15/15 cricket tournament, which takes place at the Kaiser Sports Club in Discovery Bay on Sunday.

The one-day tournament, which has attracted main sponsorship from Digicel, will feature some of the biggest cricketing names (past and present) from across the Caribbean, including Chris Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Jerome Taylor, West Indies stars sponsored by the mobile company, as well as past stalwarts Courtney Walsh, Richie Richardson and Curtley Ambrose.

"When I heard about the event that Chris Gayle was planning, I knew I wanted to be a part of it," Bolt was quoted as saying in a release. "It's great that he is finding ways to use his sport to spread positive energy and get the kids excited about improving their game and learning the right attitude to succeed on the pitch and in life."

First love

He added: "In terms of sport, cricket is my first love. I grew up watching cricketers like Courtney Walsh take the West Indies to new heights and I am a big admirer of Chris Gayle for his power batting and calm attitude.

"He is my favourite player right now," noted Bolt, who is also sponsored by Digicel. "So, to have the chance to play with these guys is a dream come true for me. I just want to tell everyone to make sure they come out on Sunday to support and enjoy this great event."

Kieran Foley, Digicel Group director of marketing, said: "We are delighted that another member of the Digicel family - in the shape of Usain Bolt - has come on board to support this event. Digicel is committed to giving value back to its communities and this event is yet another example of that. With the mix of world-class cricketers and the world's fastest man, the crowds are guaranteed a fantastic time this Sunday."

Showcasing the best of St Elizabeth, St Ann, Trelawny and St Mary, the day begins at 9:30 a.m. and will feature four matches, with a mixed team of celebrities and local youth cricketers facing off to win a match prize at the end of the day.

At the Pro 15/15 tournament, Digicel will run competitions for spectators throughout the day, with top-ups and a grand prize for a top-of-the-range BlackBerry phone.
