Since 1964, the family-owned Pelican Restaurant in Montego Bay has been a cornerstone providing excellent meals and service that have left a lasting impression on food lovers in western Jamaica.

Restaurant Manager Elizabeth Dalley states, "This was originally known as the Coffee Shop when it first opened, but over the years, it gradually transformed into the restaurant it is today. It is somewhat nostalgic for some who still refer to it as the Coffee Shop."

Quality food, consistency and great customer service are among the chief reasons The Pelican Restaurant has maintained a credible reputation for excellence in the restaurant business. Among the preferred beverages is the malted milkshake, which always gets a great public response.

One of the scrumptious treats that will be offered during the Gleaner-sponsored Restaurant Week is the tropical fruit cup - a combination of fruits, as well as sweet and sour shrimp in a tangy Pelican sauce with onions, pineapple and sweet peppers.

Many diners feast at the Pelican whether for breakfast, especially popular among locals, lunch for one of the well-stuffed sandwiches, juicy burgers or barbecued chicken. You can also choose from a wide array of Jamaican dishes, including stewed peas and rice, curried goat, fish, fried chicken and curried lobster and even shrimp. The setting offers a relaxed, rustic feel that enhances the dining experience.

No one feels uncomfortable dining at the Pelican, Dalley added, because of its family-friendly atmosphere. And best of all, there is a Frequent Diners Club where meals are discounted.
