'No immunity for Adventist cops'
The Editor, Sir:

I write with regard to Herbert Thompson's letter (May 30). The police force is an essential service. For it to be effective, it must be fully staffed - this includes weekends. I can see the criminal elements in our society rubbing their hands with glee, knowing that come Saturdays the JCF will be understaffed.

Ironically, in his closing paragraph he said "people of faith in Jamaica who stand by what they believe are a big part of what is good and honourable and lawful about us". From this statement, I can assume that few police personnel will need to attend church.

Many preachers should not bother to attend as they are so unforgiving. Remember Bishop Blair reportedly refusing to shake hands with Andrew Holness because, the politician, in a moment of madness, held back his hand from Bishop Blair?

Church in Jamaica is big business; full media coverage at annual 'prayer' meeting, where members eat merrily and the poor gather crumbs fallen from tables.

Thompson should use his office to bless and encourage police offices to execute (no pun intended) their service to exceptional heights.

I am, etc.,
