Seba, Kickers to roll back the clock
Adrian Frater, News Editor

Western Bureau:

Former national cham-pions Seba United and Violet Kickers will be aiming to turn back the clock this afternoon when they meet in the feature game of a 2008-09 Captain's Bakery Western Super Football League double-header at Jarrett Park, in Montego Bay, starting at 6 p.m.

Prior to the big showdown, which is a repeat of the 1993-94 National Premier League final between the two teams, fellow St James teams Salt Spring and Mt Salem FC, will square off in the 4:00 p.m. curtain-raiser, which should also generate much fireworks.

Based on recent form, the Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore-coached Seba United, who lead the 12-team competition with 35 points and is fresh from a 4-0 win against Grange Hill in their last game, should start favourites against a Violet Kickers team, which sits in mid-table on 15 points.

Pride

However, with pride at stake against their old Seba United rival, the Violet Kickers team, which led but eventually lost 2-1 to Montpelier last week, will be gunning to make amends for their first round 3-1 defeat against their opponents, which have lost only one game this season.

In the first game, it should be a mad scramble for points between Salt Spring (13) and Mt Salem (7), who now sit at the bottom of the standings and facing relegation woes. Interestingly, Mt Salem won the first round clash 1-0, but Salt Spring has been getting better results in recent games.

In the other games today, third-place Granville FC will meet eighth-place Clarke's Town at the Sam Sharpe Teachers' College; fifth-place Bamboo FC will entertain tenth-place Grange Hill at Bamboo, while second-place Frome FC and sixth-place Montpelier FC will clash at Montpelier.

Based on current form, Granville FC, which suffered a controversial 1-0 loss to Wadadah last week, should put their championship aspirations back on track with a win against Clarke's Town. Bamboo should get the better of Grange Hill on their home turf, while the showdown between Montpelier and Frome should be epic.
