Fleeced by rental agencies
The Editor, Sir:

I think a lot of Jamaicans seeking housing, for renting in particular in the Kingston, Portmore and Spanish Town areas have been fleeced by a number of agencies claiming to offer a service to these people.

"A drowning man will clutch at a straw." this holds true for people who need a place to live and unscrupulous agencies have been capitalising on this.

Government intervention

As simple as this matter may seem to some, the government needs to step in and make it harder for these agencies to just set up shop, take people's money and laugh all the way to the bank.

The most plausible solution in my mind is for a framework to be set up to ensure these agencies provide the person(s) with the place they offer before being able to collect payment for said service.

I am, etc.,
