Jamaica Labour Party stalwart, Mike Henry, is refuting reports he was told by Opposition Leader, Andrew Holness, that the party no longer wanted him as chairman.
It was reported that Holness met with Henry yesterday, who told him that the party did not want him to return to the post of chairman, when nominations open at next week’s Central Executive meeting.
However today, Henry told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre he had no such meeting with the party leader yesterday and that he had in fact been in his Clarendon central constituency all day.
Henry said the only way by which he can be removed is through the voting process and not by individuals.
Former deputy leader, Horace Chang, is reportedly being tipped to replace Henry.
However Henry said as far as he knows, he and Vice Chairman, Robert Montague, are the only nominees.
Mike Henry’s chairmanship of the party has been in question ever since he was left out of the Andrew Holness shadow Cabinet.
Last week, his constituents staged a protest, after Henry claimed he was not consulted before his omission from the shadow Cabinet.
