The Shaggy and Friends concert held at Jamaica House on January 2 could be considered one of the major social soirées to kick off the new year.

This time around, the decor was taken to another level and the lawns of Jamaica House were transformed into a beautiful oasis. The skybox in the diamond section was decorated with lily-white fabric with silver trimming; the platinum dinner area featured beautifully decorated tables accented with gold chairs, while the lawns had comfy, white sofas and chairs. The gold area was done in black and red and huge plasma screens were set up, so those who were not close to the stage could see the performances.

Each area had food tents and bars filling the air with the smell of freshly cooked meals. Complemented by the ambience of the venue, it all made the show even more spectacular.

Dressed to impress

People were out to have a good time and came dressed to impress. Some women took a more comfortable approach and wore jeans, fashionable tops and flats, while others went for cocktail dresses and heels. The men decided on a more casual yet trendy look, jeans with either polo shirts or long sleeves (accented with graphics), or paired with jackets.

Shaggy was up to his usual laid- back, jovial self after he kicked off the show, which began an hour late. Soon after, the entertainers did their thing. But the ones that really got the crowd moving were soca artiste Machel Montano and the young dancer-turned-reggae-artiste Ding Dong who got the young and old patrons doing the Summer Swing dance. Boyz II Men and Mario Winans also did a good job.

Althea Dyer and daughter Alexia came out to enjoy the show.

The fabulous five (from left), Maureen James-Ebanks, Neadene Tufton, Jacqueline Burrell, Ann-Marie Vaz and Tricia Thompson just hang out and looks gorgeous, as usual.

Wayne Martin and wife Sheree look quite comfy as they wait for the show to begin.
