Sweet revenge for St James

St James High School gained sweet revenge for their first round loss and sealed their place in the Ben Francis KO yesterday afternoon when they outscored arch-rivals Cornwall College 3-2 in their top of the table Zone A daCosta Cup clash at Jarrett Park, in Montego Bay.

In a game in which the St James team dominated for the most part, they got their goals through Allan Ottey, Roshane Reid and Randy Myrie. Skipper Oraine Braham and a defender scored for the Cornwall College team.

"We lost the first round game under adverse conditions and we were determined to make amends today," said St James High's coach Pastor Hugh Solomon. "The boys were all determined that we should get a chance to defend our Ben Francis title."

Top honours

In Zone B, eight-time champions Rusea's took top honours and a place in the Ben Francis KO when they blanked Anchovy High 2-0 in their top of the table clash in Lucea to finish on 10 points. Frome Technical squeezed out Anchovy for the group's second inter-zone place with a 3-1 win over Irwin High.

In Zone D, Cedric Titus joined zone winners Marcus Garvey as the qualifiers for the inter-zone would they scored a big 5-1 over Brown's Town to move 26 points, shutting out William Knibb, who were challenging for the slot.

Top-of-the-table clash

Over in Zone E, Munro College all but secured their place in the inter-zone when they upstaged St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) 3-2 in their top-of-the-table clash. The win for Munro means they are on 22 points, the same as STETHS. However, while STETHS have completed their fixture, Munro have an outstanding game against bottom place Newell High.

In Zone F, Bellefield took zone honours and the group's Ben Francis slot ahead of fellow qualifier Manchester High when they scored a big 7-0 win against May Day to top the group with 25 points,

In Zone H, former champions Clarendon College clipped Vere Technical 1-0 to take the runner-up slot in the group behind Zone winner Lennon, who had a big 5-1 win against Claude McKay. Another former champion was in spanking good form in Zone I as Glenmuir spanked Central 4-0 to take the group's Ben Francis KO slot ahead of early inter-zone qualifiers Old Harbour.

In Zone K, St Mary High missed out on a chance to join group winners Annotto Bay in the inter-zone round when they lost 1-0 to St. Mary Technical. They will now have to await the result of an outstanding game in the group to know their fate.
