EDITORIAL - The PM should listen to Mr Livshits
As the country's leaders are wont to boast, Jamaica has a proud and enviable record of paying its creditors. But there comes a time when people have to face reality, put aside pride and sentiment and acquiesce to the pragmatic. Jamaica is close to, if not already there, such a circumstance.

Rationalise public justice system
The prime minister has indicated that he is prepared to reconsider the issue of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) as our final Court of Appeal. As you will recall, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) so strongly objected to the legislation passed by Parliament abolishing the Privy Council as our final Court of Appeal and substituting the CCJ that they brought a legal action to nullify the legislation...

China to overtake US economy
Barring a financial crisis in China, that country is et to surpass Japan next year as the world's second largest economy, five years ahead of earlier estimates. And, as the world economic landscape adjusts to life after the worst recession since the 1930s, the economic gap between the world's most populous nation and the United States (US) is likely to narrow rapidly.

Tackling electricity theft
It would seem to me that the current Jamaica Public Service (JPS) policy represents a somewhat short-sighted approach to electricity theft. Either that or it demonstrates an unwillingness to tackle the problem in a holistic manner.

A good year for track and field?
The 2009 athletics season is over. The celebrations have been held, the plaudits received. It will be recorded as a good year for our athletics - what with our magnificent performances in Berlin. It will also be recorded as a wonderful year for athletics worldwide - what with the rapid growth in the popularity of the sport.
