The talented filly AL FOUZIA stormed through in the last 200 metres to win race No. 1 in the lucrative Supreme Ventures 2-Y-O series, the $2.95 million Cash Pot 'Only One For Me' Trophy over 1200 metres at Caymanas Park yesterday.

Installed a 4-5 favourite with former champion Shane Ellis riding for trainer Rowan Mathie, the bay filly by Legal Process out of the Liver Stand mare Lady Bakul, won by a length from the fast-finishing 13-1 shot INOJA under Dane Nelson with third going to the 5-2 second favourite PRINCE THEO under title-chasing jockey Paul 'Country' Francis.

A sluggish start

It was PEDRO BLUFF (6-1), the mount of champion jockey Omar Walker who made most in the field of 10 native bred two-year-olds. He was chased by PRINCE THEO recovering from a sluggish start leaving the half mile, with AL FOUZIA outpaced a bit in fifth at this stage.

As they swung into the straight, PRINCE THEO went into overdrive and quickly disposed of PEDRO BLUFF. But although looking the likely winner when two lengths clear passing the 200-metre pole, PRINCE THEO was to prove no match for AL FOUZIA, who got into top gear in the last 100 metres to win decisively.

Owned by Farasfhal and bred by many-time champion breeder Henry W. Jaghai, AL FOUZIA duly completed a hat-trick of wins from six career starts.

Sweeping the three-race series

Part-owner Jonathan McLeod said he is looking forward to sweeping the three-race series which offers a million dollar bonus to the owner of the two-year-old good enough to win all three races.

"She is shaping up to be an exceptional two-year-old filly and although I hear talk that the unbeaten SPORTS STAR is the best juvenile seen out so far, we are not afraid of him.

"My filly will get better and better as the distance gets longer in the series and I can tell you, we have yet to see the best of her," he explained.

Meanwhile, Doushane Gordon became the first of the new apprentices to notch a three-timer, this comprising the favourite HONEY BUNNY in the first race, HONEYOFALADY at 4-1 in the day's grade one supporting feature for the None Such Sprint Trophy over 1200 metres and 7-5 favourite SPACESAVER in the ninth.
