Season best times for Jamaica swimmers

Kendese Nangle

On day two of the 13th FINA Swimming World Championships in Rome, Italy, Kendese Nangle and Jonathan Wong both swam season best times but failed to advance.

Nangle was first into the pool when she swam in the women's 100 metres backstroke event. The ever-improving youngster, started well enough with a 0.67 sec reaction time and made the 50m turn in a fast 32.45. Nangle was well positioned with 25m to go. Then disaster struck. Nangle's swimsuit started to fill with water, making it difficult to maintain her speed. Despite this, Nangle swam close to her personal best time touching in 1:08.37. Her personal best is 1:08.19. Nangle placed 77th of 113 entries.

Wong also had to be satisfied with a season best time of 1:58.27 in the men's 200m freestyle. Wong has been working at better splits in the event, something he achieved when he completed the first 100m in 57.06.

Wong finished 98th out of 141 entries.

Brad Hamilton will swim in the 50m breaststroke today.
