Lady B: A class act
The Editor, Sir:

I wish to express my sadness at the passing of Lady Bustamante. I recalled that as a boy living in Greenwich Town many years ago, I met her while she assisted in handing out treats at the Jamaica Labour Party's branch office. How well I remember her unselfish acts of kindness, generosity and goodwill.

Lady Bustamante devoted her life to the fight for the rights of the working class, the poor and the powerless. Her early efforts were emblems of hard work in her simple and humble lifestyle. She taught us to have the courage to stand up for our own rights, and taught us to do it in a peaceful manner to protect those rights.

Quiet intellectual

Jamaica has lost a quiet intellectual, never common but modest. Those who knew Lady Bustamante will surely agree with me in saying, "Yes; she played a legendary innings, one of class and very special".

I am stronger, wiser and better because of 'Lady B'.

May her soul rest in peace.

I am, etc.,
