DOMINICA - 'No ordinary Sundays'
ROSEAU, Dominica (CMC):

The National Workers Union (NWU) yesterday called on the Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) to respect the recommendations of a joint task force that Sunday should not be regarded as an ordinary working day on the island.

NWU President Rawlins Jemmott said that the DAIC was represented on the task force that drew up the recommendations last year.

"This document was publicised ... we are very disappointed with the position of the DAIC," said Jemmott, adding that the private-sector group must provide evidence that if Sundays were declared ordinary working days that there would be an economic boost for the island.

Jemmott disagreed with the position outlined by the DAIC that having Sunday as a normal working day is practised and recognised globally.
