The 2009 Business House cricket season gets under way today with two matches in the Reggae Jammin Foods 50-over league.
Matches on are Digicel vs Jamalco at Kensington Park and NWC vs Continental Baking Company at Mona, starting at 11 a.m.
The competition has attracted eight teams - two less than last year as both Windalco and Carib Cement have withdrawn.
The participating teams are defending champions LIME, Jamaica Broilers, St Ann Jamaica Bauxite, Digicel, Jamalco, NWC, Sagicor and Continental Baking Company.
The Business House cricket season embraces six competitions - the Reggae Jammin 50-over league, Best Dressed Chicken 30-over KO, St Ann Jamaica Bauxite Partners-sponsored Business House 35-over competition, the Digicel 20/20 and the Hermon Spoerri double wicket competition.
Berger Paints maintained their unbeaten run in Division I of the Jamaica Electrical Technologies (JET) Business House domino competition on Friday night when they defeated Wray & Nephew Rums 136-106 in an away match.
Berger, who were promoted from Division I this season, are unbeaten in four matches. Also unbeaten are the 2007 champions Seprod and last year's Division II champions Port Authority.
In other Division I matches played on Friday night, Jamaica Fire Brigade handed four-time champions The Gleaner their second consecutive defeat, stopping them 144-133 at the Gleaner Sports Club. On the previous Friday, Marksman defeated The Gleaner by seven points.
Seprod clipped JUTC 104-103 on Friday, while Jamaica Brandy defeated Sagicor 124-11, Port Authority whipped JPS 150-125 and Marksman beat Carib Cement 123-101.
In Division II, unbeaten NHT made it four on a row, defeating Companies of Jamaica 137-103, Courts beat Pepsi 126-119, STATIN drubbed Tastee 150-112, Airports Authority defeated SDC 150-134 and National Baking Company got by Nutrition Products 150-110. The match between Premix and OSC Electrical was postponed.
The Prento-sponsored five-a-side one-day Business House football rally takes place on Saturday, June 6 at the NWC playing field in Mona starting at 1 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Business House five-a-side league kicks off on Saturday, June 13 at the NWC playing field, Mona, starting at 2:00 p.m. with a dress parade and opening matches for the 67 participating teams.
Finally, the KSAFA/Western Sports Business House football league commences on Sunday, June 14 at the NWC playing field starting at 1 p.m. Carib Cement are Division I league champions, while last year's Division II champions Jamaica National Building Society have been promoted to Division I.
