Jamaica do well in relays but T&T dominate day two
SAVANETA, Aruba (CMC):

Dylan Carter took centre stage as Trinidad and Tobago dominated the second day of the Carifta Swimming Championship at the Roly Bisslik Olympic Pool here on Friday.

Swimming in the boys' 11-12 age category, Carter grabbed three gold medals, in a superb haul of nine by the Trinidadians, to increase his medal tally in the competition to four.

Extended success

Carter, who won the 100 butterfly on Thursday, extended his success when he captured the 200 metres freestyle by clocking 2:14.59 to get home ahead of Renze Postma of Aruba and Jamaican Antoine Young.

His third gold medal came in the 50 metres butterfly event when he touched the wall in 28.05 seconds to edge out Jamaica's Timothy Wynter (28.33) and Jordy Groters (28.56) into second and third, respectively.

Carter completed his hat-trick on the night when he won the 100m backstroke, clocking 1:06.44 to hand Wynter another loss, with Suriname's Robert Tjoe finishing third.

Carter's teammate, Kimberlee John Williams, also added another two gold medals in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke on Friday evening to take her tally for the competition to four.

Competing in the girls' 13-14 age category, Williams clocked 1:07.86 to claim the 100m backstroke, reaching the wall ahead of Jamaica's Kendese Nangle and Barbados' Lee-Ann Rose.

She returned in the 200m freestyle to clock 2:09.51, beating the Bahamian pair of Julie-Anne Malidor and Bria Deveaux into second and third, respectively.

Barbados picked up just two gold medals on the day, through Zabrina Holder and Deandre Small in the girls' 11-12 age category.

Holder beat her 200 metres freestyle field, timing 2:14.59 minutes to finish ahead of teammate Amara Gibbs and Aruba's Daniell van den Berg who trailed in third.

Barbados again swept the first two spots in the 100m backstroke when Small touched the wall first in 1:12.01 minutes ahead of Inayah Sherry who clocked 1:13.32.

Best showing

Jamaica's best showing came in the relays, where they captured two of the six events being contested.

They took the boys' 11-12 400m medley relay title, with the team of Timothy Wynter, Antoine Young, Sidrell Williams and Dominic Brown sweeping to a time of 4:45.02 minutes, ahead of The Bahamas and Suriname.

Jamaica also dominated the girls' 13-14 400m medley relay, as the quartet of Brittany Kenny, Octivia Gray, Alexia Royal-Eatmon and Kendese Nangle turned in a clocking of 4:42.95.
