Parking lot at Heroes Park an eyesore
The Editor, Sir:

Hopefully, there is a supervisor for our public parks and I would like to bring to his or her attention the state of the National Heroes Park in front of the Ministry of Finance.

This park - the resting place for national heroes Marcus Garvey, Sir Alexander Bustamante and Norman Manley - should always be in immaculate condition. The venerable Miss Lou and her husband are also buried in the park.

Parking lot

Unfortunately, a part of this national shrine is being used as a parking lot for the Ministry of Finance. This is not really the place for a parking lot, and if the ministry cannot find any other available area for parking then I would like to suggest that they cut off a small part of it for that use.

Care, however, should be taken as to how the cut off is done. It should be done with taste and something which does not offend the eye but, above all, our shrine should really not be denigrated. The best solution, in my opinion, is to find a suitable area for the Ministry of Finance. The ministry should probably try and locate a premises on the side road and then use it for its parking purpose.

All Jamaicans really must try to preserve our heritage, thus ensuring that the future generation will not lose any part of our history. This is an imperative and I do hope the people in charge of heritage will look at this eyesore in our midst and have it corrected as quickly as possible.

I am, etc.,
