Noteworthy - Heed Billy Mystic's cry
  • Heed Billy Mystic's cry

Much better than I ever could, Billy Mystic has written about something I have considered for several months and not had the gumption or made the time to express through this medium.

I will for good measure now indicate that for me travel to Trinidad is never complete unless I go to the Savannah for jelly coconuts one evening. Our sisters and brothers to the south seem to have a system in place and perhaps we could learn a thing or two from their vending experience in this area.

To be fair, our people have always vended and selling coconuts and sugar cane on the streets always served willing buyers.

Unfortunately, those of us who prefer healthy alternatives to 'bottled killers' could in fact drive across the capital city on any given day and not be able to find an available vending spot to satisfy an evening urge for coconuts and/or sugar cane.

Can the authorities now hear the cry of Billy Mystic and put in place appropriate corrective measures that have been designed with good order and functionality and economics in mind?

  • Many suggestions, little action

There appears to be an enduring separation between what is and what must be done to improve the country. Be it economics, crime, or the kinds of music on the radio, there is no lack of suggested solutions. Is it that something is missing?

Why is there this predictable recurrence that after a flare-up of violence, economic burden or other trials, there is an outpouring of suggestions that eventually dry up with each day and trail off into nothingness?

Is is that things are happening so fast that each day dislodges the next and makes it difficult for any programme to materialise or take root? Why is there the separation between what is and what may be?

I think a study of this disparity might reveal the missing link.
