LETTER OF THE DAY - Think again, Dwight Nelson
The Editor, Sir: I refer to Senator Dwight Nelson's opposition to amending The Women (Employment of ) Act 1942 as part of the flexible work-arrangement review process - Houses of Parliament, March 10, 2009. The act prohibits the employment of women in night work except in specified circumstances.

Sludge may be dangerous
The Editor, Sir: I was dismayed to read the letter by Lylin McKenzie who said it was a good idea to use sludge on farmland. Sewage sludge is the black paste that is left over when sewer waste is treated at a sewage plant.

Consumer frustration
The Editor, Sir: Shouldn't the small-claims court be the last resort for the settlement of claims of relatively small amounts (J$50,000 and under)?

JPS rate hike will stifle growth
The Editor, Sir: The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) company will only stifle growth in the manufacturing sector and ravage the poor and working class of this country by the massive rate increases it is seeking.

Educational nonsense
The Editor, Sir: When I listened to Barack Obama's latest speech on education and then later read Peter Espeut's column of March 13, I found two obviously 'pandering to the popular' demonstrations of educational nonsense.

Noteworthy - Heed Billy Mystic's cry
Much better than I ever could, Billy Mystic has written about something I have considered for several months and not had the gumption or made the time to express through this medium.
