Jamaica in control
PROVIDENCE, Guyana

(CMC):

Donovan Pagon struck his third first-class hundred and placed reigning champions and tournament leaders Jamaica in control against Guyana on the second day of their sixth-round WICB Regional Four-day match yesterday.

The 26-year-old Pagon hit 105 and Dave Bernard stroked 97 to steer Jamaica to 441 for eight declared and Guyana - facing just four overs before the close - are already down one wicket after pacer Andrew Richardson bowled Shemroy Barrington for a duck.

Royston Crandon (14) and nightwatchman Davendra Bishoo (4) took the score to 22 for one as the Guyanese finished the day at the National Stadium 419 behind with nine wickets standing.

From an overnight position of 149 for three, Jamaica battled against defensive field setting in a slow morning session to add 79 runs for the loss of one wicket - fast bowler Brandon Bess dislodging Wavell Hinds for 42.

The left-handed Hinds, who was 31 overnight, struck one boundary and was attempting another when he drove a chest-high catch to mid-off.

Hinds struck four fours and two sixes in a 122-ball knock while adding 72 with Pagon for the fourth wicket.

Watchful approach

Pagon, a former West Indies Under-19 star batsman who played two Test matches for West Indies against South Africa in 2005, continued the watchful approach he used on Friday's opening day.

He reached his seventh first-class fifty off 187 balls in 193 minutes with six fours and was building a promising partnership with Bernard by lunch.

The pair added 54 by the interval - with Pagon on 76 and Bernard on 28 - and they completed a 101-run fifth-wicket stand in the post-lunch session.

The fruitful alliance ended when Pagon was run out soon after he had cracked leg-spinner Davendra Bishoo for six over long off to reach his hundred. Pagon's 332-ball innings lasted 360 minutes and he struck nine fours and two sixes.

IN BARBADOS: Combined Campuses and Colleges, trailing Barbados by 73 runs, reached 128 for five in their second innings at the close on the second day of their sixth round match.

Scores: CCC 198 (Kurt Wilkinson 44, Chadwick Walton 43; Dwayne Smith 4-45) & 128 for five (Romel Currency 56, Chadwick Walton 46; Nikolai Charles 2-9, Pedro Collins 2-26); Barbados 271 (Dwayne Smith 155; Kevin McClean 4-57).
