IMMEDIATE PAST principal of Kingston College, Rupert Hemmings, has been appointed to head one of the Hydel Group of Schools - Hydel High.
"I am excited about the possibilities," Hemmings told The Gleaner yesterday, adding that there was a lot of work to be done and targets to be met.
Asked why he left Kingston College, Hemmings, who was principal of the institution for two years, was terse in his response, noting that he wanted new challenges.
A past student of Kingston College, Hemmings has served his alma mater for 21 years in the capacities of head of the Physics Department, teacher of physics, vice-principal and principal.
Hemmings who is currently pursuing doctoral studies, holds a diploma and Master of Arts in teaching from the Mico University College, as well as a bachelor of science in pure and applied physics from the University of the West Indies.
Founder and president of the Hydel Group of Schools Hyacinth Bennett said she was confident that Hemmings would assist in transforming the institution.
"I believe that he will help to fulfil my dream of a Hydel school community that is both daring and revolutionary," said Bennett.
Hydel is a private institution located at Ferry, St Catherine. The Government recently bought the lands which housed the school. Prime Minister Bruce Golding admitted that the need to keep the school's doors open was one of the factors why the Government purchased the land.
