Jamaica Broilers advanced to the final of the Business House cricket 35-over KO competition last Sunday when they beat defending champions Cable & Wireless by three wickets in semi-final action at Chalmers Avenue.
Broilers will meet Jamalco in today's final at Kensington Park starting at 11 a.m.
Batting first, C&W reached 172 for eight off their allotted 35 overs. Horace Miller led the scoring with an attacking innings of 65 in the opening slot, André McCarthy and Marvin Lobban made 21 each, while Fitzroy Peterkin scored 19 not out. Spinner Nicoy Lindo claimed 4-33 and Fitzroy Bryan 2-23.
Broilers replied with 177 for seven off 34 overs. They owed their victory mainly to national player Keith Hibbert who scored 73 at the top of the innings.
Marinero Dixon and skipper Robert Turner offered useful support with 25 and 22 not out, respectively. National player Yannick Elliott took 2-36 and Diamon Jacobs 2-39.
St Ann Jamaica Bauxite and Cable & Wireless face off in the Digicel 20/20 cricket final this morning at Kaiser in St. Ann starting at 11:00.
Both teams boast strong batting lineups and the action promises to be fast and furious. Blessed with many all-rounders, C&W will look to current national players Yannick Elliott and Horace Miller, former Jamaica and West Indies Under-19 player André McCarthy, Damion Jacobs, Dave Johnson and Fitzroy Peterkin to pave the way for victory.
St Ann Jamaica Bauxite will counter with former national players Orville Pennant and Andre Dwyer, Christopher Hamilton, Junior Bromfield, Richard Dacres, Marlon Pinnock, Gary Williams and Courtrney Allen.
Business House domino campaigners Jamaica Electrical Technologies (JET), represented by Handel Ivey and Yan Dawkins, won the inaugural JET-sponsored At the Right Place invitational tournament held at Irvine Hall, UWI, on Saturday, November 29.
They defeated former national players Arnett 'Wonder Boy' Ramsey and Alvin 'Hardie Boy' Thomas in the final for the $20,000 prize and trophy.
The winning pair also received cellphones courtesy of Cable & Wireless.
As many as 30 teams participated in the one-day competition, including other Business House teams, National Housing Trust and Sagicor.
Organised by the National Association of Domino Bodies, through its regional coordinator Humbert Davis, the tournament was put on to raise funds to assist UWI students. Associate sponsors were C&W, Wisynco and Tastee.
