Ja to be represented at int'l conference

Two representatives from the Police (Civilian Oversight) Authority are to attend the 14th annual conference of the National Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States.

Board member Dr Marshall Hall and acting chief executive officer Gregory A. Simms will participate in the conference scheduled for October 27-30.

Speakers, panellists and representatives from the United States and other oversight bodies will address the latest developments and best practices on a range of police accountability issues.

Goat breeders join JAS

The Goat Breeders' Association is now an affiliate member of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS).

The Goat Breeders' Association was established on November 20, 1997, and has a membership of approximately 235 farmers.

President of the association, Derrick Vermont, will represent the group on the board of the JAS. This is the first time since the 1970s that a new farmers' organisation is being affiliated as a member of the JAS.

Jamaica currently imports more than $600 million worth of mutton annually.

Gem Road protest

Residents of Gem Road off Maxfield Avenue, Kingston 13, were furious yesterday after Dave 'Machine Man' Sterling, 27, was shot dead by the police.

The police said Sterling was killed in a shoot-out with their colleagues, but the residents countered, claiming that he was shot in cold blood.
