Regarding your editorial about what the government should do about Air Jamaica, it is on the mark.

In my opinion, no government should be in the aviation business except in entering into agreements to have airlines flying into and out of the country it heads. Air Jamaica has been a drain on the national purse from its inception until now and it's time to completely and unequivocally sever all ties to it.

Sell it or close it down permanently. If it's to be sold then it should be with the understanding that the new owners will be solely responsible for its survival without any state support.

Bottomless money pit

At a time when the Government is finding it hard to meet its other obligations, why should it still be plunking taxpayers' money into a seemingly bottomless money pit that is Air Jamaica?

The prime minister is right in stating that sentiment should have no place in business transactions. Air Jamaica has had 40 years to get it right and it has not been able to, even with a stint as a private entity. Let Air Jamaica sink or swim on its own or become someone else's problem, but it should not be the taxpayers' problem any longer.
