Two Montego Bay policemen detained, Cops allegedly robbed lottery scammer
THE ST James police confirmed late last evening that two constables assigned to the parish had been detained for questioning in connection with an alleged robbery.

The constables were not named, as investigations were at an early stage.

Police sources informed The Gleaner that the two young cops were assigned to the Mobile Reserve and started working in the St James Division sometime ago.

Investigators are probing allegations that the two cops robbed a known lottery scammer of his ill-gotten gains in the Bevin Avenue area on Thursday.

"We understand that yesterday, the officers returned to the scene where the alleged robbery occurred and citizens alerted the police and they were picked up. The car in which they were travelling has been seized and is being processed at the Freeport Police Station," an officer told The Gleaner on condition of anonymity.

no complainant

Police sources say there is no complainant in the matter at this time, as no one has come forward to make a report.

It is further understood that one of the officers involved in the alleged incident was on interdiction. He was among 18 police personnel attached to the Mount Salem Station who were suspended by former Police Commissioner Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin. The men were suspended following an internal investigation into allegations of misconduct relating to the infamous Lottery Scam.

Some policemen implicated in the matter have resumed duties, while others have been retired in the public's interest.
