Holmwood Technical High and The Queen's School captured the Inter-secondary Schools Association (ISSA)/Digicel All-Island Under-19 and Under-16 netball titles, respectively, at Clarendon Park yesterday.

In the junior final, Queen's thrashed Holmwood 34-20. Sade Ffrench led the way for Queen's with 19 goals from 21 attempts. Ffrench received solid support from Khadijah Williams, 15 goals from 22 tries.

Nicole Dixon, 17 goals from 18 attempts, and Sashana Richards' three goals from seven attempts, were the scorers for Holmwood.

In the senior final, Holmwood carved their fifth consecutive lien on the trophy with an exciting 35-31 extra-time win over St Hugh's. Both teams ended the regulation period locked at 28-28. National Under-16 representative Deneen Taylor led the way for the champions with 32 goals from 42 attempts.

Support

Holmwood trailed their opponents 16-11 at half-time.

However, they rallied strongly in the third quarter to outscore St Hugh (11-4) and take a 22-20 lead at the end of the period.

Taylor received support from Precella Thompson, three goals from six attempts. Chiquana Reid, 19 goals from 22 attempts, and Devene Brown, 12 goals from 20 tries, were the scorers for St Hugh.

Carline Graham, coach of Holmwood, said she was delighted with her team's performance. "It was a very exciting victory for us because I think that my girls really played their hearts out," Graham said.

"I think that St Hugh's really put up a pretty good fight. I, however, believe that my girls were a bit overconfident and they also underestimated their opponents, which led to the match going into extra time," Graham added.
