SIX companies, including the incumbent McKay Security, have reportedly shown interest in a contract bid to provide security services at Caymanas Park.
Reports reaching Racing Along is that McKay Security, Security Innovations, Vanguard Security, Knightsman Security, along with Marksman and Guardsman are lining up to secure the island's lone horse racing track.
However, it is the first time in many years the contract to provide security services at Caymanas Park is being put to tender.
Caymanas Track Limited Limited (CTL) director, Christopher Armond, said the company was keeping in line with the requirements of the National Contracts Committee and Office of the Contractor General.
The CTL committee overseeing the tender is headed by director Danville Walker.
The bid opening took place at Caymanas Park on December 8.
McKay Security has been at the track for 14 years, the longest-serving security firm at Caymanas Park.
Guardsman preceded McKay's takeover in 1995, but only lasted nine months, giving way to McKay in January 1996.
Forerunner
Atlas Security was an earlier forerunner in providing protection services at Caymanas Park.
Security at Caymanas Park has come a long way from the era when canine services was the popular choice.
However, armed guards, patrol of the stable areas, in addition to providing security during early-morning exercise hours for horses have transformed the face of securing Caymanas Park over the last decade and a half.
