Embrace capitalism
The Editor, Sir:

In talking to many prominent Jamaicans, including political and business luminaries, I hear one matter being repeated frequently. This lack is mentioned over and over and over in our discussions.

They seem to think that Jamaica lacks capital; it is as simple as that, our leaders believe that the nation has a lack of capital. They have even gone so far as to approach the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to try to bring relief in this area.

Why a lack of capital?

Now let us analyse this. Why does the nation have a lack of capital?

Well, in answering this question, I ask, is Jamaica a capitalist society or a socialist society? It would seem to me that if a person or nation wants capital, they would model their strategy and environment upon capitalist theories. So I ask, is our nation capitalist or socialist?

If we need more capital, let us depart from the democratic socialism implemented by Michael Manley which ruined our economy. Instead, let us embrace capitalism and, as day follows night, capital will follow the changing of our laws and environment in our bid to become a capitalist society.

Capital is attracted to capitalist societies, in the same way that bees are attracted to honey, or ferrous material is attracted to magnets.

I am, etc.,

JOHN WILDISH
