Kamina Johnson follows father into Senate
AS JAMAICA prepares to switch Anthony Johnson as its ambassador to Washington, his daughter, Kamina Johnson, is getting ready to make her first walk as a legislator.

Jamaica House yesterday annou-nced that Kamina Johnson would fill the Senate seat left vacant in July when Don Wehby's two-year commitment to the Government ended.

Ambassador Johnson is to replace Burchell Whiteman as Jamaica's high commissioner to London in January.

Johnson grateful

Although the young Johnson will not take her seat in the Senate until next week, she has expressed great appreciation to Prime Minister Bruce Golding for choosing her.

"I am humbled by the opportunity to be able to serve Jamaica at this level ... . It is service that is bigger than politics," she told The Gleaner.

She added: "I am also very grateful to get the opportunity to continue in Daddy's footsteps. Jamaica is his life."

Yesterday, Jamaica House quoted Golding as saying Johnson brings to the Senate a deep commitment to national affairs and a sharp perspective which, he is sure, would enhance the deliberations of the Senate.
