Battle on for final berth
Ryon Jones, Gleaner Writer

The Claro KSAFA Jackie Bell KO is down to four teams who will do battle in today's semi-finals, with Super League teams Cavalier tackling Real Mona in the feature match at the Spring Complex.

Major League outfit Greenwich Town will travel to the Bell/Chung Stadium to face another Super League team, Santos, who are looking to continue their quest for a trophy they have never won despite it being named after their founder, Winthorpe 'Jackie' Bell. Both matches are slated to start at 3p.m.

Cavalier and Real Mona played to a 1-1 draw in a dress rehearsal for the semi-final in their league meeting four days ago. Steve Richards scored for Real Mona whereas Cavalier's goal came by way of an own goal.

Cavalier's player/coach, David Laylor, said: "Mona has a particular style of attack that I have observed, but it is something that we can counter and we plan to counter it," Laylor said. "Everybody is fit and available but we are going to make some adjustments to the team based on the last game."

Dominate early

Peter Moses, coach of Real Mona wants to dominate the game from early.

"One or two of the players who were affected by yellow cards and not available for the game on Saturday are now eligible to play this game on Wednesday (today)," Moses said. "We will try and dominate earlier in the game. I am sure they will be trying to do the same; so the beginning of the game should be very interesting in terms of establishing dominance one way or the other."

Santos progressed after defeating Maverly/Hughenden 3-0, while giant-killers Greenwich Town defeated Constant Spring 1-0 in the quarters.

Expecting to go all the way

Stephen Taylor, the coach of Greenwich Town, expects his team to go all the way.

"Judging from playing JDF and Constant Spring we expect that once we stick to our game plan and put away our chances then we should go all the way," Taylor said. "In most of the games, both in the league and in the knock out, we're creating the chances but we not putting them away, that is the problem."

Carlton Dennis, coach of Santos respects his opponents despite his team being involved in the higher of the two leagues.

"We must respect them because they've been getting good results so we are not going to say we are a Super League team and they are Major League," Dennis said. "We will show them some respect but we going there to win."
