Jurors on bribery rap denied bail
THE TWO female jurors who were arrested and charged last week for allegedly bribing a woman to free her son of a murder charge were denied bail when they appeared in the Clarendon Circuit Court yesterday.

Supreme Court Judge Bryan Sykes, who cited the jurors for contempt of court, remanded them until Wednesday.

There is an outstanding statement in the matter and it is expected to be ready by tomorrow.

The women are also charged with perverting the course of justice and will be appearing in the May Pen Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday to answer to that charge.

Thousand-dollar deal

It is being alleged that the two women were among a 12-member jury in a murder case in the Clarendon Circuit Court when they allegedly told the accused's mother to pay them $100,000 to free the man.

The mother reported the matter to court officials, who reported the matter to the police. They were held in a sting operation this month, allegedly collecting marked money from the accused's mother.

The trial had to be stopped and the murder case was transferred to Kingston.

The accused man, Rohan Johnson, appeared in the Home Circuit Court yesterday and was remanded until December 18 for a trial date to be set.
