All set for Lime finals

The 2009 three-day Lime Inter-Secondary Schools National Tennis Finals will serve off tomorrow with several exciting matches at Tennis Jamaica's Eric Bell Tennis Centre and the Liguanea Club.

All the top tennis playing schools from across the island will be on show. At the conclusion of the zonal competition last Friday, the point standings showed:

BOYS

Eastern Zone: Campion College's boys head the standings with 15 points after continuing their unbeaten run in zonal play with an 8-0 drubbing of Ardenne at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre.

They are followed in second place by Wolmer's Boys on 12 points. Wolmer's beat Kingston College 7-0 last Wednesday. They are followed by Hillel's boys with nine points, Jamaica College with six points, Ardenne with three and KC zero.

The four leading schools, along with fifth-place Ardenne (wild cards), have qualified for the national finals.

Western Zone: Cornwall College are on top with 12 points. They beat Ocho Rios High 6-0 at Aqua Sol Theme Park in Montego Bay. Irwin High are next on nine points. Cornwall and Irwin High (wild cards) will play in the national finals.

Central Zone: Munro College.

GIRLS

Eastern Zone: Wolmer's Girls came out on top with 15 points after defeating defending national champions Immaculate Conception 5-2 last Friday at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre. Immaculate are in second place with 12 points followed by Holy Childhood on nine, Hillel, six, and Ardenne, three. The four leading schools, along with fifth-place Ardenne (wild card), have secured spots in the national finals.

Western Zone: Montego Bay High lead the way with six points, followed by Ocho Rios High, three. Montego Bay High and Ocho Rios (wild cards) will represent the zone.

Central Zone: Hampton defeated Cross Keys 6-1 to reach the finals.

Tomorrow's girls' matches are scheduled for Tennis Jamaica's Eric Bell Tennis Centre starting at 9 a.m. while the boys' matches will be played at Liguanea Club, also starting at 9 a.m. Semi-finals and final-round matches will be played at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre on Friday and Saturday commencing at 9 a.m.
