Ken Jones no longer with OPM

Jones

Less than eight months after he was appointed spokesman for Jamaica House and director of communications in the Office of the Prime Minister, veteran journalist Ken Jones has quit.

Jones left Jamaica House more than a month ago but there was no official announcement from the Office of the Prime Minister. There has also been no word on whether a replacement had been appointed.

Jones yesterday confirmed he was no longer at Jamaica House and told The Gleaner his departure was amicable, without providing details of what led to the parting of ways.

Not satisfied

However Gleaner sources say Jamaica House was not satisfied with his performance and he was displeased that his advice was not being sought not followed when it was given.

In announcing the appointment of Jones in March, then Information Minister Olivia Grange had said he would be responsible for the promotion and enhancement of the public image of the Prime Minister and his office.

Develop strategies

He was also mandated to develop strategies to disseminate information on the activities of the prime minister and policies of the Government, nationally and internationally.

Jones developed respect in the local journalism community while working as a reporter, photographer, editor, columnist, publisher and television producer.

He also served as executive director of the Jamaica Information Service and at one time served as head of Information at the Jamaican Embassy in Washington.
