Rose battles injuries for top form

World Junior Championships sprint relay gold medallist, Remaldo Rose, is said to be working himself back in competitive shape ahead of the 2010 track and field season.

Rose, who also won bronze in the 100m at the 2004 World Junior Championships in Italy, has not competed competitively in two seasons because of a series of injuries.

Coach Glen Mills said Rose has had challenges, but he was hoping that the former Camperdown athlete would have his moment one day.

"He has had a number of challenges with his injuries," explained Mills.

"We have sent him so many places, he has been to Germany, several parts of the States, and they have not been able to come to grips with a solution," Mills continued while speaking about the undis-closed injury.

However, Mills, who runs the Racers Track Club that also includes the likes of double World record-holder Usain Bolt, said the coming season could be the one for Rose, who has a personal best of 10.29 seconds.

"He is currently training and is in fairly good shape, so we are hoping that this is the breakthrough year for him," Mills said.

Asked if Rose, who won at ISSA Boys Championships and also the Junior Carifta Games during his junior career, Mills said, "We first have to get him into a competitive condition, he hasn't race for two years now, competitively, so, he is still young, and we still hope he will fulfil that one moment in the sun."
