Buju wraps up 'Rasta Got Soul'

Four-time Grammy-nominated reggae icon, Buju Banton, successfully wrapped the final leg of his 'Rasta Got Soul' US tour with a string of successful dates in the Sunshine State last week. The roots-rocking revue, which featured opening acts Gramps Morgan of Morgan Heritage, vocalists Nikki Burt and Angel Shalome, plus special guest Wayne Wonder, steered its way into Florida for five stellar performances in Melbourne, Jacksonville, Tampa, Miami and Orlando. In just seven short, but eventful, weeks and despite the misguided efforts to derail his musical movement, Buju Banton's 'Rasta Got Soul' US tour proved unstoppable with nearly 30,000 fans attending 32 shows across the country, making it the biggest-selling reggae tour of the year.

Quickies

Tessane speaks about debut album

After getting popular with Secret Hideaway, reggae/rock singer Tessanne Chin has broken the silence regarding her eagerly anticipated debut album, slated to be released early next year.

She says it is still untitled, but will feature a host of new songs and a few classics. "Well I plan on heading in a totally different direction than before, as it relates to the music. I've been doing some recording of late and the album should have anywhere between 12-14 tracks. Currently, I'm promoting my new song Are You Gonna/Control, which is a fun song about the ups and downs in relationships," she said.

Tessanne has also been busy collaborating with the likes of Shaggy on a song dubbed Never Let Me Go, which is to be released later this month. Other collab's include work with singer/songwriter Kes out of Trinidad and on the local front, the female dominated track Beautiful Sister, alongside Alaine, Queen Ifrica and Tami Chynn.

Sophia Brown returns from video shoot

Reggae singing sensation Sophia Brown is back in the island following her trip to Los Angeles some weeks ago to shoot a video for her latest single, Gimme That Good Love. Brown, who has been busy promoting her music on the local scene, says the video shoot was a definite success as everyone involved played their respective roles. "I am very happy with the whole concept of this video. I truly stepped it up a notch with this one and I just want the fans to know I will continue to mature musically and please them in every way," she said.

Rihanna, Chris Brown match schedules

Rihanna and Chris Brown's promotional schedules may have curiously collided in the past, but this is just getting ridiculous.

Last month, Rihanna released her highly-anticipated comeback single, Russian Roulette. Brown chose the same day to announce his tour plans, which he followed up, two days later, by releasing his new single, Crawl.

Then last week, Rihanna sat down with Diane Sawyer for an emotional and revelatory two-day interview. Brown answered the appearance as best the ratings-poison singer could, spilling his own oft-repeated secrets in a same-day interview on MTV.

Rihanna's music video has long been set to premiere on '20/20' this Friday. Brown has been booked on Friday's Wendy Williams Show, where he will both chat with the hostess and premiere the not-nearly-as-anticipated music video for his single.
