KELLY'S WORLD - Going for a walk

Kelly

I think I need a break from the world.

I've got a bredren who, like me, is single and not close to getting a wife (his words). He's about as regular a guy as you can find in terms of his hopes, his likes and dislikes. He tries his best to just do as he's told at his job too. Like me, he's a little crazy (but then that's why we're friends).

The other day, an older, married woman, practically called us liars when we told her we had no significant others. "That's what you men always say," she chirped. "You say there's nobody in the picture, not even a close friend, but I know better." My friend and I both realised that trying to convince her otherwise would be about as fruitful as trying to fix potholes with whipped cream.

What irks me though, is that this example, however small, tells me what society has become - this weird place full of scepticism, cynicism and all types of 'isms' that don't help. I'm a cynic for sure, but even that level of cynicism is too much for me. Why is it so hard to believe a young, heterosexual male cannot be single - he is just playing fool to catch wise? There have been many things pounding my brain like a hammer recently. Our youth idolise DJs who are dividing the country and giving dancehall music a bad name in the process, private sector companies are only thinking about making the money while saying to hell with quality and so on.

Wandering soul thing

I'm thinking about just getting up one day, packing my bags with a tent, some money, and a few supplies and walking out - literally! I believe in trying this wandering soul thing. To make money, I could do odd jobs for people like moving their junk, (I don't chop bush so well). I see plenty of open land all across Jamaica when I get out of the Corporate Area, so I could just mind my own business and stay out of everybody's way. I'd stay near the town squares during the day and head out to the green fields at night. I'd walk everywhere I go, so no air pollution and I'd keep the weight off.

I'd call my mum every two days or so, (I would have enough for a cheap cellphone and I should be able to find an outlet to charge it). I could maybe crash for a few days with an aunt who lives in Hanover. I've got options. The best thing is I'd, hopefully, be able to regain some level of sanity. Hmm, might be walking for a while though!
