Preserve Kingston's beauty
The Editor, Sir:

This is not another 'Fool yu, again' thing, is it? It would be good if this bit of news were really so. I so much want to believe it, but years of talk about doing something about downtown Kingston have dulled my enthusiasm.

One day during the 1990s, I took a photograph of the Kingston Harbour from one of the ferries from Port Royal. The entire Kingston was in the background. Recently, I looked at it, and what a beautiful scene it was! Where else in Jamaica can you see such a magnificent view? The most amazing part of reviewing that photograph was that it is not a unique photograph, as pictures of it from way back to Kingston's early years have been around, including drawings. It is truly a wonderful harbour and deserves to be listed as one of our national heritage sites.

Before you publish another editorial on Kingston and its harbour, go and look at it. View it from one of the ferries from Port Royal. Photograph it. Breathtaking! Kingston laid bare in all its splendour.

It hurts to see the entire capital treated so shabbily.

I am, etc.,
