I have listened over the years as Corporal Raymond Wilson champions the cause of the police force, as it is his right and duty as chairman of the federation. I have heard him take Jamaicans For Justice to task when he felt that the local human-rights body was more concerned with the death of citizens, without coming out in greater support for slain policemen.
Unfortunately, the Police Federation has never come out to chastise members of the police force for extra-judicial killings, even though it is an open secret that many police officers indulge in this practice.
My latest disappointment is with the despicable call by the chairman for the resignation of Assistant Commissioner Les Green for his comments that it is possible that some policemen who have been killed could have met their demise because of unlawful transgressions.
Instead of reflecting and supporting the assistant commissioner, Corporal Wilson has engaged in a broadside against him.
The tirade of the chairman makes me wonder if the apparent image of the police force is more important to him than the reality. For surely, none is so blind than he who will not see.
I am, etc.,
