This is an open letter to the prime minister.
The keen observer of history knows prolonged discontent is one of the major causes of civil disturbances. It is a great pity that the management of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company is oblivious to this truism, for if they did they would have moved with lightning speed to defuse the very explosive situation that exists at the Half-Way Tree Transport Centre.
This situation, Mr Prime Minister, is the daily non-arrival of buses for up to 75 to 85 minutes during peak hours.
Frustrated commuters
Sir, it cannot be civilised or safe to have 270 to 300 persons waiting on a bus for more than a hour. This is happening every single working day, resulting in commuters getting very angry. Frustrated and ready to vent at the simplest of provocation. The frightening scenes which erupted at corridor 1E, route 21, in the centre on October 27 and 28, are clear signs that a full-scale riot is only moments away if corrective measures are not taken post haste. There is no way your administration could exonerate itself from full responsibility
Remember, Mr Prime Minister, Armadale happened not because it was unavoidable but because blind eyes and deaf ears refused to take note of tell-tale signs. I beg of you, act now. Tomorrow could be too late. Please, don't repeat this lame argument about unavailability of buses.
I am, etc.,
