Western Bureau:
In a game marred by heavy winds, Village United and Arnett Gardens were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw as while both teams created good chances in their Digicel Premier League fixture at the Elliston Wakeland Centre, they both failed to score.
"We came here hoping to get all three points but we only got one but that is okay," said Arnett Garden's player-coach Fabian Davis.
Acceptable result
"A point on the road is generally an acceptable result. The heavy wind was difficult to handle."
For Village United's coach Cassman Williams, whose team is yet to lose at home this season, the result was somewhat disappointing as according to him, while the wind was difficult to deal with, his team got chances to win."
"We enjoyed lot of possession and created opportunities but our finishing let us down," said Williams. "We have got to sort out our finishing because it is hurting us badly."
By virtue of the result, Village remains in mid-table on 12 points, while Arnett, who are recovering from a poor start to the season, are now on 10 points.
After a robust start by Village in which they missed a second-minute opportunity through Everett Mullings, Arnett missed back-to-back chances in the 10th and 13th minutes. First, Garfield Gillespie had his shot blocked by the goalkeeper and second, Kwame Richardson fired his close-range rebound over the crossbar.
Midway the half, Village got and wasted chances in the 22nd and 25th minutes. First, Shavar Campbell traded brilliant passes with Teofore Bennett but fired straight at the goalkeeper. Second, Rushane Henry pounced on a rebound but side-footed wide from six yards.
Glorious chance wasted
In the second half, Arnett wasted a glorious chance in the 69th minute. Lenore Creary broke free before the goal but instead of picking his spot, fired straight into the waiting hands of goalkeeper Elvis Hart.
Village bounced back in the 71st minute and they too wasted a good chance. Skipper Troy Smith flicked a neat pass to Bennet but his hastily taken shot was blocked by the alert goalkeeper.
With time running out in the second half, Arnett should have scored in the 80th minute. A melee developed before the Village goal but several shots, including an open opportunity, by Dwayne Plummer failed to find the target.
Village got the last opportunity of the game on the stroke of full-time when substitute Maoracio Gardener found himself with a clear shot on goal but initially stumbled and fired straight at the goalkeeper.
