Boys' Town clip August Town
Ryon Jones, Gleaner Writer

Boys' Town relegated August Town back to losing ways when they clipped them 2-1 in their Digicel Premier League encounter at Collie Smith Drive yesterday.

The fiery encounter saw Boys' Town reel off 17 shots with six on goal, while August Town could only manage nine, with only three being on target. The Red Brigade deservingly took the lead in the 14th minute when Anthony Bennett ran on to a long-range pass, which he hammered past helpless August Town custodian, Devon Haughton. The home team went two up in the 35th minute when August Town's defence failed to clear their lines allowing Peter Keys to turn in the box and unleash a powerful shot.

More spirited August Town

The second half saw a much more spirited August Town team emerge from the changing room. The visitors were further encouraged by a 59th-minute penalty when Boys' Town custodian, Philmore Crumbie, committed an unnecessary foul. He intercepted a through ball intended for Jermaine Simpson but instead of collecting it, followed through to foul the player. Crumbie was ejected for his rash challenge.

August Town's keeper, Devon Haughton, converted the spot kick. The team were, however, unable to find the equaliser and in the 85th minute were also reduced to 10 men when Raymond Williamson was shown his second yellow card of the match.

Poor defensive showing

August Town's coach, Calvert Fitzgerald, thought his team's loss was due to a poor defensive showing.

"We gifted them two goals by making some very bad defensive mistakes but overall we played one bad half and we played the second half the way we were supposed to have played the entire game," he added.

Andrew Price, coach of Boys' Town, was not very pleased with his team's second-half performance.
