"Women have a support system. They can cry on the shoulders of others as a way to deal with their problems. But where is the outlet for men? "They always have to be proving something externally," says Kevin Wallen.
He continues, "Men are in trouble. Who do you see in universities? Mostly women. Who are the ones stepping up in the corporate ladder? Women. Who do you see occupying the prisons? Men."
With this obvious concern, Wallen, says he was quite thrilled when he was asked to be the host of the radio programme, 'Real Man Things'. Aired on Sundays between 9 and 10 a.m. on Power 106. Wallen says the hour will be dedicated to discussing real issues that affect men.
"It will be like a barber shop kind of thing. Everybody can listen, men can have real conversations and there will be that sort of exchange between men. But I don't want it to be limited to men only, as women can listen in on the perspectives of other men and can learn a few things or even participate in the conversations," said Wallen.
Being the host of such a programme, he will have to be on his toes to grab the interest of listeners. So what does he bring to the table as host? "I am very aware. I have seen life from different angles, from poverty, hanging with the wrong crowd to what you will call the affluent - and based on my role as a motivational speaker, I am exposed to a lot."
Conceptualised by Communications and Business Solutions, the host says there is no predictability where the programme is concerned, as the topics will vary from week to week but listeners can expect "no-judgement, open, raw conversations".
Thrilled by this new challenge, the motivational speaker, businessman and competitive wrestler made his debut with the programme, airing for the first time yesterday.
