Dinthill seal KO spot
Western Bureau:

Two-time champions Dinthill Technical High yesterday afternoon took top honours in Zone J of the 2009 ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition when they blanked Bog Walk 2-0 in the top-of-the-table clash to move to an unassailable 29 points.

The unbeaten Dinthill, whose record now reads nine wins and two draws from 11 games, joined last year's beaten finalists, Spaldings High, as teams that have already qualified for the Ben Francis Knockout, by virtue of winning their respective zones.

Inter-zone spot

In Zone D, front-runners Marcus Garvey Technical High School moved closer to an inter-zone spot with a 2-0 win against Cedric Titus in their top-of-the-table clash at Drax Hall in St Ann. The win lifted them to 25 points, four more than Cedric Titus.

William Knibb, the third team in contention for the two inter-zone places in Zone D, added some momentum to their bid with a 5-0 blanking of York Castle. Jonai Clarke, with a hat-trick, and Oshane Miller, with a brace, were the scorers for William Knibb, who are now second in the group on 22 points.

In Zone K, leaders Annotto Bay and second-place Brimmervale moved closer to copping the group's two inter-zone places, by securing important points from their respective games. Annotto Bay drew 1-1 with St Mary High to move to 25 points, while Brimmervale blanked Iona 2-0 to climb to 20.

When the competition resumes this afternoon, many-time champions Cornwall College will be seeking to join current champions St James High atop the Zone A standings, with a win against the out-of-contention Green Pond High, who they will entertain at Jarrett Park.

Cornwall and St James are now locked in a keen battle for the zone's lone Ben Francis Knockout spot, which will go to the winner of the group.
