A tribute to 'fallen heroes'

They might have gone too soon, but the Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC) is ensuring that their 'fallen heroes' will not be forgotten.

The club, in collaboration with communications giants LIME, has dedicated the Heroes Day race meet for this purpose.

"Every Heroes Day, we try and recognise our fallen heroes. These are competitors who have raced at Dover consistently and were champions in their respective classes. That's why the final event on October 19 has been named the 'Fallen Heroes Memorial Race'," said Hilary Jardine, president of the JRDC.

Among the fallen heroes who will be recognised at next Monday's meet are former drivers Alfred Chen, David Summerbell Sr, Mark Moodie, David Brown and Maurice Leighton; and former motorcyclists Gary Grant, Andrew Moscoe, Lance Douglas, Lambert Russell, Dean Panton, Troy Bent and Andre Janniere.

Three events

The 14 racecard will include three motorcycle events. Stefan Chin and Adrian Blake, as well as several newcomers, are listed among the competitors for this meet.

The championship standings are very close and the slightest mistake can cost anybody. Kyle Gregg, Gary Barrett and Bryan Foster are fighting for the top honours in the MP-1 Class, while Peter Jaggon, Sebastian Rae and Teddy Burton are the top three in the MP-2 Class.

It's very close in the MP-3 Class between Doug Gore, Chris Campbell and Peter Rae. Stephen Bansie. Gary Williams and Neil Gore are battling it out for the IP27 title, while Bryan Foster, Rohan Clarke and Nigel Edwards are the main contenders in the IP37 Class.

Meanwhile Chris Campbell, Doug Gore and David Summerbell Jr. are the big guns in the Thundersport Class.
