There were mixed emotions at Effortville following the home team's 1-1 draw against Rivoli in the sixth-round Digicel Premier League clash yesterday.
The previous week, a 1-0 win against Boys' Town - their first in the league - was welcomed in party-like fashion. This week emotions were subdued, the feeling of relief mixed with thoughts of what might have been.
Kimroy Davis, a key player in the squad which brought Humble Lions to this level, scored for the second straight week, providing early what looked like the platform for another evening to celebrate. Additionally, the chances kept coming.
Kevin Mighty had a clear header on goal, but its tameness made it easy for goalkeeper Marlon Edwards.
MISSED CHANCES
Attacking midfielder Narado Brown faltered on two one-on-one runs at Edwards, chances any player at this level would have sleepless nights for missing, on reflection.
Devon Hodges, often Rivoli's point man, was shut out from chances created from open play within the 18-yard area.
However, goalkeeper Sheldon Brown, who replaced Damion Crooks, couldn't keep out the national striker's free kick from 25 yards that earned the equaliser against the run of play in the parting seconds for half-time.
Whatever Brown's thoughts were at half-time, they didn't help much and he was sent off for a straight red for violent conduct, a minute on resumption. It was a cruel twist of fate for the hopes of the home fans, but the team showed much gusto defending a goal that kept their unbeaten run at home.
