The Editor, Sir:
I wish to make an observation of an article written by Dr Alfred Sangster headlined, "Officialdom and the Athletes".
Personally, I am somewhat disappointed that an educated individual of public eminence could pen such a poorly structured article full of inaccuracies and vicious innuendoes.
I will address just one inaccuracy where Dr Sangster wrote that IAAF President Lamine Diack persuaded JAAA President Howard Aris and IAAF Regional representative Teddy McCook to withdraw the banning of the MVP athletes from the Berlin Games. At no time at all did I have a meeting with Presidents Diack and Aris to discuss the issue concerning certain Jamaican athletes, and that is a statement of fact.
For your edification, Dr Sangster, I have been one of those individuals fortunate to have attended Kingston College where Bishop Percival Williams Gibson indoctrinated in us honesty and integrity of purpose and emphasised that such should never be used for personal advantages at any time. YES, Dr Sangster, I am proud to be a Kingston College Old Boy.
I am etc.,
Neville M. McCook, OJ, JP
